Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

To start my Song of the Day segment is a song performed in the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World by the fictional band, Sex Bob-omb.

The song “Garbage Truck”, along with most of the movie’s soundtrack, was written by Beck; however, this version of the song was actually performed by the actors who played members of Sex Bob-omb in the movie: Michael Cera, Mark Webber, and Alison Pill.

First – I have to take a second to recognize the band name Sex Bob-omb.  It’s fantastic: indie, funny, catchy, quirky.  If only it hadn’t been created for a fictional band.

Next – “Garbage Truck.”  While the recording is intentionally scratchy with a garage-recording feel, the song’s catchy vocals and distorted instrumentals create a driving force that will have you tapping your foot in seconds.  With a length of only a minute and forty-five seconds, you’ll need to hit the repeat button often. Truck, truck, truck.

Apparently besides Michael Cera, who already had previous musical knowledge, the band members of Sex Bob-omb (Mark Webber and Alison Pill) were taught drums, guitar, and vocals in a matter of weeks by members of Beck and Metric.  Incredibly talented people. Read more here.
