“Crystalized” by The xx surrounds its listener with waves of echoing harmonies so full that you feel like you could literally float on them.
The pulsing tempo of the guitars almost mimics your heartbeat, and the breathy vocals of singers Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim contribute to the weightless effect of this uncluttered song.
The England based band released the song on their debut album, xx, in 2009 and it became a hit in the UK.
While I have an affinity for many of the songs on their album, the almost constant vocal and guitar harmonies in “Crystalized,” even some that are somewhat dissonant, draw me in every time. I find myself singing along to the guitars almost more that I do to the actual lyrics. It’s that good.
