This song is contagious. The bouncy keyboard string effects will have your hips shaking, the falsetto vocals will keep you humming along, and the occasional claps will have you participating in the genius that is this song.
The chorus uses a number of vocal layers along with a light synth melody to switch up the dynamic. Into the second verse, it all drops back out, leaving just the bouncing strings and the falsetto vocals.
“The Ghost Inside” was released on the Broken Bells first self-titled album in 2010. The band consists of only 2 members: James Mercer (from The Shins) and Brian Burton (AKA Danger Mouse); however, they tour with a full band.
I first learned of the band at the 2010 Austin City Limits music festival, and I was instantly impressed. Their music is catchy without being annoying or predictable.
